SUMMARY:[ASK the Physician] No need to wait: Hormones as essential medical care
DESCRIPTION:Some people are experiencing lags in their trans-related medical care during COVID-19. Nearly all medical appointments are happening by telehealth\, with routine lab tests being deferred until the health crisis has calmed down. However\, some trans and non-binary people are being denied refills to their hormones or not being able to connect with their health care provider to maintain their medical care. During this ASK the Expert\, Joanna Woodbury and Dr. Jessica Francis will share information on how to have continuity of care (including hormones)\, as well as some harm reduction strategies to insure your best health during these tough times. \n \nSpeakers\nDr. Jessica Francis\nDr. Jessica Francis is an assistant professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her areas of clinical expertise are low risk obstetrics\, gynecologic surgery\, minimally invasive surgery vaginal surgery\, and care of pediatric and adolescent patients. Dr. Francis provides comprehensive and preventative care for l transgender individuals\, including gynecologic and obstetrical care. \nJoanna Woodbury\nJoanna Woodbury is an experienced Certified Social Worker and has worked in HIV care since 2007. She serves as the Social Services Program Manager overseeing social work\, mental health and pharmacy services provided in the Inclusion Health and Infectious Disease Clinics. Shelley has worked actively in the LGBTQI+ community for over 25 years and began to focus their work on advocacy for transgender and non-binary folx nearly two decades ago. Their background is as a civil rights lawyer. Shelley continually aims to contribute to improving quality of life for trans and non-binary individuals and increasing our inclusion in society.
