SUMMARY:Putting Our Faith Into Action: Building deeper understanding and connection with our trans+ siblings
DESCRIPTION:Bathroom bills. Title VII. #MeToo. Racial justice.  Gun Violence. Title IX.  What do these things have to do with transgender and non-binary people?  Come find out to learn more.  And… we know you want to learn (and do!) more\, because you are a UU!\nAfter a quick review of trans basics\, we’ll explore the changes in the local\, state\, and federal socio-political-cultural landscapes and how these change directly (and often adversely) impact trans/non-binary communities.\nThere are also incredibly positive shifts happening\, so stay to also learn about resilience in action. Everyone will leave with concrete steps about how to improve the lives of trans/non-binary people in these challenging and difficult times.\nThis dynamic workshop-like experience will begin directly after the 10am worship service at the Bradford Community Church UU (5810 8th Ave\, Kenosha\, WI)\, with interim minister Denise Cawley\, Rev. Erik Carlson\, and many Bradford friends who will share words\, art\, and healing prayers celebrating the gender continuum.\n  \nPresenter bio:\nmichael munson is the co-founder and Executive Director of FORGE\, an organization focused on improving the lives of transgender individuals by building stronger connections\, providing resources\, and empowering growth through knowledge.  FORGE is a national training and technical assistance provider funded in part through the Department of Justice\, Office on Violence Against Women and the Office for Victims of Crime.  Munson’s educational background is in psychology\, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care and non-traditional healing modalities.  His work on violence against trans/non-binary individuals stresses the intersectionality between complex components of identity\, experience\, and societal constructs that can both spur violence\, as well as catalyze healing for individuals and communities. He is passionate about engaging people to embrace these complexities and learn key skills to create a more whole and healthy world.

SUMMARY:Bike Ride on Beerline Trail
DESCRIPTION:For this week’s FORGE Outdoors activity\, we will be going for a bike ride along the Beerline Trail and exploring some of Milwaukee’s most exciting urban parks! We will meet at Gordon Park and continue through the Riverwest/lakefront area. The ride is around 4 miles\, but more hilly than our first bike ride on the Oak Leaf Trail. It also includes more off-trail street biking! We will take frequent breaks at our scenic stops and enjoy refreshments at Fuel Cafe on the way back to Gordon Park.\nTime: 1-4 PM.\nLocation: We will meet at Gordon Park (2828 N Humboldt Blvd\, Milwaukee\, WI 53212) at the splash pad! Gordon Park has a large parking lot if you are driving\, and is accessible by bus lines 22 and 14\, which stop at Humboldt & Locust. We will make several stops along the Beerline trail\, including Kadish Park\, the Swing Park\, and a secret climbing wall along the river! We will return along the Beerline Trail and stop at Fuel Cafe on Center St. (18 E Center St\, Milwaukee\, WI 53212) for refreshments. For those who parked at Gordon Park\, we will return there at the end of our trip.\nIf you have transportation questions\, please contact me at caleb@forge-forward.org. If you arrive on Sunday and have trouble finding our meeting spot\, please call or text me at 414-249-6746.\nWhat to bring: Yourself\, your bike\, a helmet(!)\, a water bottle\, sunscreen\, comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing\, snacks (optional)\, and some pocket money for drinks at Fuel! I would recommend bringing $3-$5 if you would like to buy a refreshment when we stop. It’s very important to stay hydrated and comfortable\, so make sure that you can move freely in your clothing. If you are binding\, please be especially careful not to overheat\, and drink plenty of water! We will take as many breaks as needed.\nThis bike ride is shorter than our first bike ride on the Oak Leaf Trail\, but may be more physically strenuous because of hills. We can walk steep hills if necessary and turn our bike ride into a bike & hike adventure! Please be mindful of this when deciding whether this outing is for you\, and contact me with any questions. We will do our best to make this ride as comfortable for everyone as possible.\nPlease bring any personal medication\, such as inhalers or epi-pens\, even if you do not think you will need them on this outing. Your safety is extremely important!\nWhat’s next?: Mark your calendars! The next FORGE Outdoors outing will be on Sunday\, July 7th. SUMMARY:Karaoke For the Cause - BOUNCE!
DESCRIPTION:The first Friday of every month\, Bounce Milwaukee\, Milwaukee’s premiere place for bounce castles\, laser tag\, indoor rock climbing\, and arcade fun\, hosts karaoke to benefit a different local\, progressive charity. For December they’ve chosen FORGE!\nThere’s no cover to enter\, and kids (and those under 21) are welcome from 8-9. After 9pm\, things switch into 21+ mode. At least $1 from every drink (including mocktails!) sold at the bar from 8pm until the music stops will benefit the FORGE! FORGE staff will be on hand to let you know how you can assist or volunteer to support their work.\nFORGE is a national transgender anti-violence organization\, founded in 1994. Since 2009\, we have been federally funded to provide direct services to transgender\, gender non-conforming and gender non-binary survivors of sexual assault. Since 2011\, FORGE has served as the only transgender-focused organization federally funded to provide training and technical assistance to providers around the country who work with transgender survivors of sexual assault\, domestic and dating violence\, and stalking. Our role as a technical assistance provider has allowed us to directly see key continued and emerging challenges many agencies are experiencing in serving sexual assault survivors of all genders.\nPlease\, no Hotel California. We know it seems like a good idea\, but it’s really long.
