SUMMARY:Drawing Our Future
DESCRIPTION:The theme of Sexual Assault Awareness Month is Prevention Demands Equity. Equity means that we must listen to and value all voices in the creation of a better world. Trans/nonbinary perspectives are critical in creating safety now and in the future. Drawing Our Future is a space for trans/nonbinary community and loved ones to gather and explore our visions of safety.\n\nIn this workshop\, we will use prompts to help us imagine a safer world and create images\, descriptions\, or other forms of art related to our visions. Participants will be able to share what they’ve created with each other and discuss ways to continue using arts for healing and social change. When registering\, you will have the option to request a free care package to be mailed to you with all the supplies you need for this event.\n\nPlease register at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DrawingOurFuture\n\nIf you would like to receive a care package\, please complete the registration form before April 15\, 2023.\n\nFacilitated by Emil Rudicell. Emil has worked in sexual and domestic violence prevention for years\, with a focus on social change and youth leadership. Prior to that\, they led creative writing workshops with people who were or had been incarcerated. Emil has provided crisis support on national and statewide hotlines for over a decade. Emil is not an artist\, and you don’t have to be either!

SUMMARY:Trans self-defense and empowerment for all bodies

Defend Yourself offers practical skills that anyone can learn (you don’t have to be an athlete\, or train for years in martial arts) — skills for preventing\, interrupting\, and healing from harassment\, abuse\, and assault. Join Defend Yourself teacher Stephania Mahdi to find out more about how empowerment and self-defense training can help you be safer and more confident when dealing with everything from daily problems like problematic family members or intrusive coworkers to physical assault. You’ll leave this session with techniques you can use right away. \n \n0:00 Introduction to presentation\n2:04 About Stephania and Defend Yourself\n6:16 Basics of empowerment self-defense\n9:55 Self-defense and neurodiversity\n12:09 Building confidence and empowerment \n20:10 Practical self-defense skills\n26:27 Self-defense with physical disabilities\n28:31 The “tunnel zone”\n31:02 What skills can people learn in class? \nQ&A\n34:02 How to create distance?\n36:21 How do we balance non-violence with safety?\n40:23 Defend Yourself trainings with FORGE\n42:25 Resources for people with disabilities \n45:44 Getting away with mobility issues\n47:17 How do you move from a “fawn” response to being more assertive?\n52:32 If we can’t create space\, how to create safety? \n54:59 Why Stephania teaches self-defense\n58:10 What weapons do you recommend carrying? \n1:02:16 Closing words \n  \n \nStephania Mahdi \nFor the last six years I have been teaching\, learning\, and growing as a Defend Yourself trainer. Defend Yourself classes empower me to be more assertive\, and to create healthy respectful boundaries in my personal relationships. What inspires me the most about Defend Yourself is providing tools to women (cis/trans) and non-binary/queer folks to feel empowered in all aspects of their day-to-day life. \nIn addition to teaching with Defend Yourself\,  I am the chair of the DC Anti-Violence Project\, a volunteer organization that  supports survivors of all types of violence in the LGBTQIA+ community. \nIn my professional life I work as an Equal Opportunity Advisor\, advising and training management and employees on ways to prevent sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace. \nIn my spare time\, I enjoy volunteering in my community\, working out\, and attending the theatre. \n\nWho is welcome at WiTEACH?\nEveryone who wants a Wisconsin within which trans and nonbinary individuals and families are welcomed\, supported\, and helped to thrive. \nAbout Wisconsin Transgender Education and Advocacy Coalition for Health:\nWiTEACH is a new trans people/service providers/community members statewide coalition designed to focus and make more effective efforts to improve the lives of transgender and nonbinary individuals and families. SUMMARY:Trans/Gender-Expansive Tech Safety in the post-Dobbs Political Climate
DESCRIPTION:It’s a tough time for bodily autonomy if you defy reactionary ideas of gender and reproduction. Since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe\, there’s been a lot of discussion about tech safety\, digital privacy\, and access to medical care. Most of it has been centered on non-trans women\, and most of it has been focused on a few specific potential concerns\, such as period tracker apps. At the same time\, there has been an increasing social and political backlash against trans/nonbinary/gender-expansive individuals and communities\, their supportive family members and friends\, and their care providers. This webinar will go beyond the spotlight to discuss tech safety\, privacy\, and security for trans/gender-expansive survivors of intimate partner violence\, sexual violence\, and stalking who are seeking care in a fraught political climate. \nRegister: https://forge-forward.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_y6HWLjKjSmi-OaJD93nvng \nPresenter: Jessie L\, Technology Safety Specialist at the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV)

All of these things and more have led many of us to feel deep\, profound\, and pervasive grief.\n\nThis gently moderated panel will bring together individuals from multiple perspectives: spiritual (Jennifer Nordstrom)\, clinical/mental health/therapy (Travis Trott)\, and within-community perspectives (Cameron Overton).

SUMMARY:Out of the Shadows: Mental Health First Aid
DESCRIPTION:Register in advance: https://forge-forward.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_dtgnYamkT1q1nzB-F2k4Kg \nThere are powerful benefits when we bring our whole selves to our interactions with others.  Doing so has a direct impact on our friends\, co-workers\, family\, and community. Rob Vallentine\, a national instructor for Mental Health First Aid\, will discuss the importance of investing in our own Mental Health and how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in others.  He will share how to improve interactions with someone struggling with their mental health using the 5 step action plan of Mental Health First Aid. \nRob is proud to help shed light on an important health issue too often kept in the shadows. Sometimes all it takes is one moment and one story to spark an inspiring movement. \nPresenter: Rob Vallentine \nRob is on a mission to ignite personal passion to find purpose\, and in turn make a positive impact on the world.  While his work and community service have enabled progress and lasting improvement\, he is most proud of his roles as father to his four children and partner to his wife. Each member of his family has\, in their own way\, created positive social change at home and at work\, advancing LGBTQ\, mental health\, autism and youth empowerment. \nFor most of his life\, Rob promised himself that he would never talk about being a survivor of childhood sexual trauma. He struggled daily with anxiety and felt like he had carried around a backpack full of rocks his whole life. \nRob is now dedicating his time to breaking the stigma of mental health by sharing his own story of hope\, healing and growth with people around the world. He is a National Instructor for Mental Health First Aid. \nRob serves on the National Advisory Board for the University of Michigan Depression Center and the National Advisory Council for the National Network of Depression Centers. Rob also serves on the Board of Directors for the Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance and Shelterhouse Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center and is a Community Director for Huntington Bank.

SUMMARY:Queerly Creative Daily Art Journaling with Sassafras Lowrey

SUMMARY:Liberatory Responses to Suicide and Crisis
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we will discuss the history of carceral responses to suicide and crisis. Beginning with the conflation of madness and queerness\, we will explore the ways queer and trans people have been targeted by carceral psychiatric and psychological “interventions.” We will trace the persistence of this historical trauma’s legacy in current crisis response models. After grounding in historical and contemporary responses to crisis and suicide\, we will imagine liberatory frameworks for responding to suicide and crisis that resist paradigms of punishment and pathology.\n\n \n\nPresenter: Jess Stohlmann-Rainey.\nI am Jess (she/her) and I love to talk about suicide. I am a mad\, queer\, feminist\, care worker. I am a trainer and consultant\, and work as Director of Peer Services at Rocky Mountain Crisis Partners (who provides the statewide crisis and peer lines\, RAINN hotline\, Colorado Lifeline\, and others)\, and an instructor at the University of Denver’s School of Professional Psychology. I live as a white settler on the unceded territory of the Arapaho\, Cheyenne\, Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute)\, and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Sioux) people\, (so-called Denver\, CO). In my work\, I aspire to be a useful person and create pathways to intersectional\, justice-based\, emotional support for marginalized communities. I believe mutual aid\, disability justice\, abolitionist\, and other liberation ideologies are integral to solve the problems that lead to suicide. Right now\, I am really into talking/thinking about epistemology\, capitalism\, and ethics in the context of suicidology.
