Shana specializes in working with adults and children with trauma histories and has years of experience working for Washington County Human Services crisis program. She has expertise doing suicide assessments, grief counseling, AODA assessments, and debriefing First Responders after critical incidents. She also has extensive experience working with adolescents and their families in assisting with healing, teaching how to disengage in arguments, and communicating. Her approach to therapy is from the perspective of Trauma Informed Care, which looks at individuals from a question of: "what has happened to you," as opposed to, "what is wrong with you." She helps people discover relaxation techniques such as aromatherapy, deep breathing, journaling, and other sensory experiences. These approaches along with looking at perceptions and negative thought patterns can be helpful when working on anxiety and depression. She uses a strengths based approach and views healing as a process and joining the client where they are at in their journey. Shana's interests are in trauma, LGBT issues, sex therapy, gender assessments, post partum depression, anxiety, depression, suicide prevention, and parenting issues. She is available for public speaking or trainings.
