Parents of trans kids support group

MKE Parents of Trans Kids is a group of parents and caregivers supporting each other on our individual journeys of love, acceptance, and advocacy for our school-aged gender non-binary, transgender and non-conforming children. We meet monthly on the 3rd Sunday from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. Supportive, gently facilitated meetings offer parents and adult family members the opportunity to share their successes, concerns, and stories of challenges and resilience. This space also provides a forum to learn from others, ask questions, seek feedback, or just listen. Childcare can be provided upon request. Please contact us 10 days prior to the meeting so we can arrange for a sitter. For additional information, email us at parents@forge-forward.org.

Monthly Milwaukee Meeting: Speak-Out — Stories of Hope and Resiliency

Orlando. HB2. Westboro Baptist Church. People who have never met a trans person telling us who we are. It’s easy to see those who oppose, hate, or simply don’t know who we are but feel free to offer a negative opinion anyway. On Saturday June 25th , 2016 we are going to create a counter-wave of hope and resiliency. The whole night will be devoted to sharing our stories of when someone came through for us in a wonderful way we weren’t expecting. We welcome all types of stories. It could be the stranger at the diner counter who was delighted to hear you are trans. It could be the elected official who publicly stated he has changed his mind about LGBT people. It could be the family member who surprised you with words of support that you never expected to get from them. It could be the health care provider who went out of […]

Monthly Milwaukee Meeting: “Our Trans Family”

Our Trans Family is a project to capture images of transgender people and their family.  The purpose is to create an awareness of the breadth and complexity of people who love and support each other.   Our hope is that this type of project will create a better more realistic understanding of the trans community. Each of the photographers on the project have decades of experience as documentary photographers.  Jeff Pearcy, Meredith Watts, and Rikki Thompson formed a collaborative organization “For Good” Photography to work with non-profit organizations to create images that support the organization’s mission.  We also create projects that reflect our concern for human rights. To see more of their work, go to www.forgoodphotography.com.   Speaker: Jeff Pearcy was the chief photographer for a daily newspaper in the 80’s.  He went on to be the Executive Director for two non-profit organizations.   He began shooting documentary photography in 2007.  He has worked for a variety […]

Monthly Milwaukee Meeting: Voting While Trans in Wisconsin

There has seldom been a U.S. Presidential election where so much seems at stake. Don’t let Wisconsin’s Voter ID law scare you into giving up the one vote (voice) you have in what will happen to all of us over the next four years. Wisconsin ACLU’s Senior Staff Attorney Karyn L. Rotker will be our featured speaker on Saturday, September 24 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center’s Community Room. She will give practical advice on how to deal with the voter ID law if your current ID doesn’t match your current name or appearance, as well as advice on early voting and absentee voting. Make sure you know how to make your voice heard November 8!   Won’t be able to attend on the 24th?  Check out your rights (not trans-specific) here: http://www.aclu-wi.org/story/answers-some-voter-registration-questions http://www.aclu-wi.org/story/top-10-voter-id-questions     What’s the purpose of FORGE’s Milwaukee Monthly Meetings?
