FORGE’s new outdoor activities program, FORGE Outdoors, held its first outing on Sunday, May 26th, 2019. Caleb Weinhardt lead the first activity: a bike ride along the Oak Leaf Bike Trail. He plans to lead many more events throughout the summer. Participants gathered at Estabrook Park before biking on the bike trail to Lakefront Colectivo for a chance to relax and socialize. FORGE Outdoors aims to create a safe and affirming place for trans/non-binary people and friends/family to enjoy outdoor activities, foster a sense of community, provide access to a variety of activities, and promote physical and mental wellbeing.

Weinhardt was thrilled that this first event was highly attended, and looks forward to holding future outings for the trans/non-binary community. “I’m excited to see this program grow over the summer,” Weinhardt said. “I hope that we can create a community space that encourages social support and physical wellness.”

The next FORGE Outdoors event will be on Sunday, June 2nd, 2019. This week, the group will hike along the Milwaukee River from the Urban Ecology Center, starting at 1 PM and ending at 4 PM. Future events include rock climbing, beach days, picnics, mindfulness-focused activities, and more hiking and biking.
