May 26, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm UTC+0

Social Support

We’re very excited to announce the first outing of FORGE Outdoors. FORGE Outdoors offers free, inclusive summer activities for transgender/non-binary individuals and their friends, family and loved ones in in the Milwaukee area. The activities are geared towards people interested in being active outside! This summer we will be hiking, biking, rock climbing, and more! This program is open to a wide range of ages, experience levels, and abilities.
FORGE Outdoor leadership:  Caleb (he/him/his) will be leading FORGE Outdoors outings during the summer. He looks forward to meeting all of you for our first outing: a bike ride along the Oak Leaf bike trail.

Outing details:

Activity: This Sunday, we will gather for a leisurely bike ride along the Oak Leaf bike trail from Estabrook Park to Lakefront Colectivo and back (7.4 miles round trip). We will ride at a pace that is comfortable for everyone and enjoy the fresh air and nature around us! We will take a break at the Lakefront Colectivo for refreshments.
Start location: Estabrook Park (4400 N. Estabrook Dr., Shorewood, WI 53211). I will arrive half an hour before we leave to meet with anyone who arrives early! We will meet by the entrance to the Oak Leaf bike trail (there is a sign on Estabrook Parkway). This is near the Estabrook dog park. We will leave a short buffer time (15 mins) to wait for the group to arrive before leaving. If you arrive and have difficulty finding the meeting location, call or text me at 414-249-6746.
Transportation: If you are traveling by bus, Estabrook Park is accessible from the Blue line at stops on Wilson & Courtland or Wilson & Glendale. If you need additional assistance with transportation, please contact me ahead of time at caleb@forge-forward.org.
End location: We will return to Estabrook Park to finish our ride. If you are being picked up, please let your ride know that this will be our final destination. If you need to leave early or prefer a shorter ride, feel free to leave from the Lakefront Colectivo (1701 N Lincoln Memorial Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53202). We will be stopping here for a break to relax and get to know each other!
What to bring: Yourself, your bike, bike helmet, a water bottle, comfortable and weather-appropriate clothes, snacks (optional), and some pocket money for drinks at Colectivo! I would recommend bringing $3-$5 if you would like to buy a refreshment when we stop. It’s very important to stay hydrated and comfortable, so make sure that you can move freely in your clothing. If you are binding, please be especially careful not to overheat, and drink plenty of water! We will take as many breaks as needed. It should not be too sunny, but bring sunscreen just in case!
Weather: Mostly cloudy, 59°: bring a jacket/windbreaker and warm layers if you get cold easily!
Additional info: If you need to rent a bike, the nearest Bublr bike stations are located at 1200 E. Capitol Drive and 4485 N Oakland Ave. Bublr bikes cost $4 for the first 30 mins and $4 for every additional 30 mins, so would likely cost around $24 if you plan to rent one for the entire three hour outing.

What’s next?:

Mark your calendars! The next FORGE Outdoors outing will be on Sunday, June 2nd. This week we will be enjoying a hike along the Milwaukee River from 1:00-4:00 PM. Keep an eye out for details and for future events! This summer we will be hiking, biking, rock climbing, and enjoying beach and picnic days around Milwaukee.
