Parents of trans kids support group

MKE Parents of Trans Kids is a group of parents and caregivers supporting each other on our individual journeys of love, acceptance, and advocacy for our school-aged gender non-binary, transgender and non-conforming children. We meet monthly on the 3rd Sunday from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. Supportive, gently facilitated meetings offer parents and adult family members the opportunity to share their successes, concerns, and stories of challenges and resilience. This space also provides a forum to learn from others, ask questions, seek feedback, or just listen. Childcare can be provided upon request. Please contact us 10 days prior to the meeting so we can arrange for a sitter. For additional information, email us at parents@forge-forward.org.

Milwaukee Women’s March

10-11:00am Rally at Milwaukee County Courthouse (901 N 9th Street) 11-12:00pm March to Wisconsin Center (400 W Wisconsin Ave) 12-3:00pm Afternoon of action, fundraising, food, fellowship (400 W Wisconsin Ave) The Women’s March is not just for women! The event is HIGHLY trans-inclusive and intersectional, with a focus on making the event accessible to all people who want to participate, including: trans people (trans issues and gender neutral bathrooms throughout); people with disabilities (live streaming for those who can’t be in the cold or stand for the rally, rides from rally site to Wisconsin Center); FORGE will have a table, so please stop by and say hello. The March is also looking for individuals to serve as anti-harassment liaisons, especially to prevent harassment against trans people and people of color. NO January meeting [Monthly Community Meeting]

There will be no monthly meeting in January 2018.  Instead, we encourage you to take part in the HIGHLY inclusive Milwaukee Women’s March and Rally event (see below). Note we will also be hosting a special event in February, so no meeting will be held on February 17, 2018. (See below for info on guest speaker Aidan Key.)

Aidan Key [Monthly Community Meeting]

Aidan Key, Guest Speaker -- Hold the date! Sunday, February 18, 2018 6:30-8:30 pm Aidan Key is the founder and director of Gender Diversity, an organization that provides education and support for families who are raising transgender or gender diverse children. After a parent’s realization that their child is transgender — but often before they have had a chance to catch their breath — the question of how to navigate schools looms large and immediate. This session will provide parents, families, community members, advocates, and allies with important information on countering bullying, navigating school/community conversations, and creating safe and nurturing educational environments for trans and gender diverse youth. Bring your questions to guide the discussion!   (Note: there will be no regular FORGE or parents’ support group meetings that weekend so that everyone can come to this special event.)

Affirmation or Conversion Therapy? [Monthly Community Meeting]

Join FORGE on Saturday, March 17, 2018 @ 2:00pm for a panel discussion on the emotional and physical health risks associated with conversion therapy. Nearly all medical and mental health professional associations have deemed conversion therapy as both ineffective and an attempt to "cure" something -- gender identity or sexual orientation -- that is NOT a disorder. Wisconsin is one of 41 states that do not have laws banning conversion therapy. An ordinance is before the Milwaukee Common Council on March 27, 2018 to ban conversion therapy. Come learn more and leave with some action steps to help ensure the ordinance passes. Panelists: Kim Skerven, Ph.D. Tony Snell Rodriguez Shelley Gregory
