Balancing Yin and Yang: Chinese Medicine for Trans People [Sept Monthly Community Meeting]

FORGE / MKE LGBT CC 1110 N Market Street, 2nd Floor, Milwaukee, WI, United States

This talk will focus on how the body is viewed through the lens of Chinese medicine. Kellen will explain the concepts of yin, yang, qi and blood, and will describe how those aspects of the body change during different parts of the transition process. Acupuncture and herbal medicine help the body adjust more smoothly to hormones and surgeries, and learning the basics of the foundational theories behind Chinese medicine can increase self-awareness and self-care. Bio: Kellen is a non-binary trans acupuncturist at North Node Clinic - a holistic health clinic they co-own with Ellice Plant. In addition to acupuncture and herbal medicine, they use techniques including moxibustion, cupping, and gua sha. They are passionate about LGBTQI competent health care and are committed to maintaining a practice that is affordable and accessible with a mission of creating anti-racist and anti-classist space.
