Monthly Milwaukee Meeting — Therapist Panel

Choosing a therapist can feel daunting. FORGE will try to make it easier by hosting a panel of local therapists with significant experience working with transgender and non-binary individuals and loved ones. Through a moderated discussion, each provider will talk about their approaches and experience, as well as answer participants’ questions. If you are in the market for a therapist, maybe you’ll meet them here! If you’re not in the market for a therapist, increase your community-resource value by learning more about some of the professionals who serve the SE Wisconsin trans/non-binary communities. What’s the purpose of FORGE’s Milwaukee Monthly Meetings? Share information on pre-selected subjects. Provide support for people who attend. [All people who are interested in trans and gender non-binary issues are welcome. We encourage people to participate at their level of comfort. [Note: Milwaukee Monthly Meetings are not political action or social justice-focused events. Our purpose is support and information-sharing. There is […]

Supportive, gently facilitated meetings offer parents and adult family members the opportunity to share their successes, concerns, and stories of challenges and resilience. This space also provides a forum to learn from others, ask questions, seek feedback, or just listen. Childcare can be provided upon request. Generous Listening: A Gift that Builds Community

Listening. We all do it every day. Problem is, we don’t necessarily do it well. Really good listening – healing listening – requires focused attention and skill. Practiced liberally, it can not only heal individuals, but build community. Spend Saturday afternoon with us learning skills that can help you make the world – YOUR world – a better place.

Screening of Documentary “Check It”

FORGE / MKE LGBT CC 1110 N Market Street, 2nd Floor, Milwaukee, WI, United States

October's monthly meeting will feature the film "CHECK IT" (dir. Dana Flor & Toby Oppenheimer). The film tells the story of a group of young transgender and gay people, mostly African-American, who responded to bullying, racism, transphobia, and other violence by forming a gang called Check It in 2009. They’ve built a reputation for unity and for vengeance against anyone who dares to cross them. The documentary premiered at the Tribeca film festival last year. The members of Check It have tried to leave violence behind, turning to more productive pursuits, such as creating a fashion label, but their lives are still filled with challenges. The film highlights the young people's resiliency, loyalty to one another, and above all, a deep commitment to better themselves. Join us for the film, followed by discussion afterwards. Snacks will be provided. Let us know you are attending on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/events/1730690533905612
