Screening of Documentary “Check It”

October's monthly meeting will feature the film "CHECK IT" (dir. Dana Flor & Toby Oppenheimer). The film tells the story of a group of young transgender and gay people, mostly African-American, who responded to bullying, racism, transphobia, and other violence by forming a gang called Check It in 2009. They’ve built a reputation for unity and for vengeance against anyone who dares to cross them. The documentary premiered at the Tribeca film festival last year. The members of Check It have tried to leave violence behind, turning to more productive pursuits, such as creating a fashion label, but their lives are still filled with challenges. The film highlights the young people's resiliency, loyalty to one another, and above all, a deep commitment to better themselves. Join us for the film, followed by discussion afterwards. Transgender Day of Remembrance. Join FORGE and community partners in marking the Transgender Day of Remembrance. The greater Milwaukee community will be honoring those who have lost their lives due to anti-transgender bias or violence on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Parents of trans kids support group

MKE Parents of Trans Kids is a group of parents and caregivers supporting each other on our individual journeys of love, acceptance, and advocacy for our school-aged gender non-binary, transgender and non-conforming children. We meet monthly on the 3rd Sunday from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. Supportive, gently facilitated meetings offer parents and adult family members the opportunity to share their successes, concerns, and stories of challenges and resilience. This space also provides a forum to learn from others, ask questions, seek feedback, or just listen. Childcare can be provided upon request. Please contact us 10 days prior to the meeting so we can arrange for a sitter. For additional information, email us at parents@forge-forward.org.

Meeting description: We’ve almost made it! 2017 is mercifully coming to a close. Join FORGE at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 for a celebratory and 2018 planning party. We’ll eat together (FORGE will provide the food – vegetarian and meat options), enjoy a free trans-focused raffle, and – most importantly – talk about what FORGE and the larger trans community can do to help make 2018 better for all of us. About that raffle: all attendees will receive free tickets just for showing up, but you can get extra tickets for each item you bring for the Gender Expression Project and/or each item of food you contribute to the LGBT Community Center’s Food Pantry (see below for details on what’s especially needed). Milwaukee Women’s March

10-11:00am Rally at Milwaukee County Courthouse (901 N 9th Street) 11-12:00pm March to Wisconsin Center (400 W Wisconsin Ave) 12-3:00pm Afternoon of action, fundraising, food, fellowship (400 W Wisconsin Ave) The Women’s March is not just for women! The event is HIGHLY trans-inclusive and intersectional, with a focus on making the event accessible to all people who want to participate, including: trans people (trans issues and gender neutral bathrooms throughout); people with disabilities (live streaming for those who can’t be in the cold or stand for the rally, rides from rally site to Wisconsin Center); FORGE will have a table, so please stop by and say hello. The March is also looking for individuals to serve as anti-harassment liaisons, especially to prevent harassment against trans people and people of color.
