Film: Deep Run

"DEEP RUN" Sun 10/25 3pm Exiled by her family and rejected by a girlfriend, 17-year-old Spazz has no one to lean on for support. But when Spazz falls in love again and summons up the courage to become Cole, a strong-willed trans man, his candid humor and steadfast, all-inclusive Christian beliefs counter the bigotry he experiences daily in a most conservative land. An exquisitely photographed film that showcases the physical beauty of the landscape, Deep Run also maps its economic and spiritual fissures. And Cole is remarkable: impressively restless and doggedly confident, loyal to himself and his loved ones, as he works to forge ahead best he can. https://uwm.edu/lgbtfilmfestival/event/deep-run/ #MKELGBTFilm

“At the Intersection of Public & Private Pain: LGBT Elder Abuse”

Domestic Violence in Later Life Conference This conference will focus on engaging and building relationships with elders who have experienced abuse and other types of trauma in their lives. One key focus will be on LGBT elders. How do we talk with LGBT elders about the adverse situations and experiences that they have encountered? Why do LGBT elders rarely report abuse in their relationships? How do we build rapport and trust with these elders? We will also learn how to collaborate with and support caregivers, protective service providers, and domestic violence advocates in their work with elders. The goal of this conference is to increase our awareness and understanding of elders who may have endured an incredible amount of abuse and to support them in our professional and personal roles. Parents of trans kids support group

MKE Parents of Trans Kids is a group of parents and caregivers supporting each other on our individual journeys of love, acceptance, and advocacy for our school-aged gender non-binary, transgender and non-conforming children. We meet monthly on the 3rd Sunday from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. Supportive, gently facilitated meetings offer parents and adult family members the opportunity to share their successes, concerns, and stories of challenges and resilience. This space also provides a forum to learn from others, ask questions, seek feedback, or just listen. Childcare can be provided upon request. Please contact us 10 days prior to the meeting so we can arrange for a sitter. For additional information, email us at parents@forge-forward.org.

Monthly Milwaukee Meeting: Author Bridget Birdsall

Program Description: Bridget Birdsall believes books save lives. In 2012, after relentlessly being bullied for being “different," Bridget’s nephew took his life. Since that time, Bridget has been empowering people, especially young people, through the transformative power of words. When those of us who do not “fit” into the typical societal, religious or familial boxes begin to share our stories: WATCH OUT! Not only do we support one another, but the world as we know it, may actually change. This is because sharing our stories heals our lives, our communities and our world. Bridget wants you to know that YOU MATTER, your stories matter, no matter who you are or how "different" you feel. Using her award-winning novel Double Exposure, Bridget seeks to uplift, inspire and empower all LGBTQIAA identifying people to stand proudly in who they are and to help us all write a new narrative! RSVP and let us know you are attending! https://www.facebook.com/events/145765395784537/ About Bridget: Bridget […]
