FORGE staff member, Shelley Gregory, will discuss recent news about the workplace rights of trans & non-binary employees. Shelley, a former employment discrimination attorney, will break down the three Supreme Court cases in easily understandable terms and will explain how laws currently protect trans and non-binary workers. Shelley will also talk about how the Supreme Court cases may (or may not) affect trans & non-binary workers, as well as the implications of the Equality Act (a landmark non-discrimination law pending in Congress) on trans people’s lives. Transgender and non-binary individuals, friends and family, and supportive community members are welcome to join in creating a reflective and restorative space for our community to close out 2018 – a year of notable challenges and remarkable highs (like recent court decisions in Wisconsin making trans-specific healthcare accessible to state employees and BadgerCare enrollees!). We’ll also reserve time to hear from you. What would you like to see from FORGE in 2019 for support, connection, community events, or in response to social/political developments? What ideas do you have to help FORGE reach more people to strengthen our rich and diverse communities? Froedtert’s LGBTQ Inclusion Clinic Comes to FORGE You’ve been asking for it, and now it’s here! The Inclusion Health Clinic – an LGBTQ-specific health center through Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin – is now open. Three providers from the Inclusion Health Clinic will be the speakers at the FORGE monthly meeting on October 20, 2018, sharing the unique opportunities the Inclusion Health Clinic offers the LGBTQ community by providing LGBTQ-affirming and -knowledgeable health care. In addition to providing comprehensive primary and preventive care for the LGBTQ community, the Inclusion Health Clinic offers OB/GYN care, HIV services and prevention, psychiatric care, and transgender-specific services, including hormone therapy. Balancing Yin and Yang: Chinese Medicine for Trans People [Sept Monthly Community Meeting]

This talk will focus on how the body is viewed through the lens of Chinese medicine. Kellen will explain the concepts of yin, yang, qi and blood, and will describe how those aspects of the body change during different parts of the transition process. Acupuncture and herbal medicine help the body adjust more smoothly to hormones and surgeries, and learning the basics of the foundational theories behind Chinese medicine can increase self-awareness and self-care. Bio: Kellen is a non-binary trans acupuncturist at North Node Clinic - a holistic health clinic they co-own with Ellice Plant. In addition to acupuncture and herbal medicine, they use techniques including moxibustion, cupping, and gua sha. They are passionate about LGBTQI competent health care and are committed to maintaining a practice that is affordable and accessible with a mission of creating anti-racist and anti-classist space.
